This is the first Japanese book introducing Japanese varieties of longhorn
beetles, and their various individual
and regional mutations.
This series are scheduled to be completed in three volumes.
This book (1st volume) contains 229 species in 126 color plates.
It cover all members of family Disteniidae and a part of family Cerambycidae,
including Parandrinae, Prioninae,
Spondylidinae,
Lepturinae, Necydalinae, and a part of Cerambycinae.
On pages 20 to 27, descriptions of new species, new subspecies and new taxonomical treatment are presented.
One new species and 20 new subspecies from Japan and one new subspecies
from Korea are described.
And many reclassifications are suggested.
The commentary in the text gives the Japanese name (common name in Japan),
scientific name, body length,
emergence period of adults,host plants, distribution, and degree of rarity
in the field for each species.
Stars are used to indicate the degree of rarity in the field;
is used for the most common and for very rare. Text are in Japanese only.
